JAC’s Sales of Passenger Cars Dropped over 40% in Last Two Months Leading by NEV

SHANGHAI March 10th, 2017 ZXZC – Sale of BEVs of JAC in February dropped again after it was zero in January. The production and sales volume of BEVs in February was 414 and 125 units, a year-on-year decline of 69.29% and 89.42% respectively. Production and sales volume of JAC’s BEVs during the past two months dropped 86% and 95% year over year respectively.

It has become a common phenomenon that Sales of automakers encountered a drop at present. BAIC announced its sales of February yesterday, its sale of NEVs in last month also declined by almost 36%. Declined sales of NEVs of automakers mostly due to the effect of external factors. Since this year the new subsidy policy is to be officially implement, the first five batch of List of recommended vehicles for NEVs’ Popularization and Application announced by MIIT were redefined, which made the information provided by the list keep uncertain. Also, policies of fiscal subsidies of various regions are still under preparation yet. According to reporters of China Bussines News, NEVs of multiple automakers including Geely all stopped sales in Shanghai but only accept an order.

However, Mr. Cui Dongshu, secretary-general of CPCA, predicted that NEV market in February will be better with an expected sales of 20 thousand units. But the reporter thought sales decline of traditional vehicles need more attention from JAC. According to data from JAC’s website, production and sales volume of JAC’s traditional vehicles were 45,244 and 46,238 units in February, a year-on-year glide of 2.48% and 17.59% respectively. The total sale of JAC’s traditional vehicles during the past two months was 106.9 thousand units, a year-on-year drop of 14.71%. Also, JAC’s total sale of passenger vehicles declined almost 40% to 47,915 units from 82,693 units of the same period of last year. However, sales of other automakers like GAC, the Great Wall, Changan and Greely of February all gained growth of different disgrees.

Self-owned brands still have a good performance with SUV sales growth, while JAC only has its sale of MPV increased 20% to 4,200 units, and all sales of its passenger car brands descended, among which sale of SUV declined 42.6% to 35 thousand units.

JAC has aimed to sell 400-thousand-unit passenger cars in 2017. However, sales of passenger cars in the past two months are less than 50 thousand units, 12.5% of JAC’s sales target. JAC will has 6 new models come to the market this year, but it would be difficult to achieve the goal of 400 thousand units if it loses SUV market.
