BEIJING - GAC Fiat Chrysler Automobiles Co Ltd has started recalling 9,052 cars due to problems with the software of the power control module.

Starting on Aug 9, the recall involves 2019 Compass models powered by 1.3T engine and produced between Feb 28 and July 25, 2019, according to a statement from the State Administration for Market Regulation.

The defective power control module software in some of the targeted cars may cause engine failures, posing safety risks, the statement noted.

The carmaker said it would upgrade the defective power control module software free of charge.
