Sino-German joint venture FAW-Volkswagen launched its new Magotan and Magotan GTE on Wednesday in Beijing. The two models, available in 10 variants, are priced between 186,900 yuan and 309,900 yuan ($26,700 and $44,271).

The Magotan family has presented a number of breakthroughs in new energy, connectivity, autonomous driving and lighting.

The Magotan GTE is a plug-in hybrid vehicle that boasts both performance and fuel economy.

It has a top torque of 400 Nm and a top speed of 200 km/h, while it consumes only 1.8 liters of gasoline per 100 km.

The Magotan GTE can drive for 56 km on pure electric mode, which is enough for most people's daily use. The new models feature FAW-Volkswagen's IQ.DRIVE system, which covers smart functions involving parking and driving, including traffic sign recognition, lane keeping, the latest adaptive cruise control, pre-collision warning and hands-off detection. The new Magotan also features the smart lighting system called IQ.LIGHT.

It is the second Volkswagen-branded model to sport the matrix headlights, which are composed of individually controlled light-emitting diodes. They will significantly improve road safety under different road conditions.
