JAC-Volkswagen project under approval, may obtain joint-venture alternative energy vehicle license plate
The first joint-venture alternative energy vehicle license plate may belong to JAC-Volkswagen project. Reporters got news that the project approval is entering into a special procedure, and it’s expected to be approved in the first half of this year. At that time, it will become the first joint-venture alternative energy vehicle project.
During September of last year, Volkswagen and JAC signed a cooperative memorandum. The two sides planned to construct a joint-venture alternative energy vehicle company, conducting the R&D, production and sales of alternative energy vehicle products, as well as exploring an innovative solution for auto transportation.
Information shows that JAC has submitted the project to Anhui Province Development and Reform Commission, which has been accepted on the day of submission and is currently entering into a special procedure.
According to the “42 working days of expert review and 10 working days of publicity” in an approval procedure, the project will be approved by administrative departments of central governments in a latest day in March. If coming smooth, the joint-venture company will get approval in the first half of this year. At that time, the company will become the first joint-venture alternative energy vehicle company covering R&D, production and sales, breaking limit that one foreign auto company could only own two joint-venture companies in China.
It’s expected that the joint-venture company will become Volkswagen’s main force in Chinese alternative energy vehicle market. Volkswagen has made out specific plan to provide about 400,000 units’ alternative energy vehicles to Chinese consumers by 2020 and 1.5m units’ in 2025. It’s said that Volkswagen will launch eight alternative energy vehicles in China, including six models from Volkswagen and Audi, and other two models from JAC-Volkswagen joint-venture Company. “The joint-venture company plans to launch the first BEV model in 2018. We target at economical BEV models in the future.”
