BEIJING - Chery Automobile Co has decided to recall 4,000 vehicles from the Chinese market starting Jan 15, according to the country's top quality authority.

The recall involved 4,000 Arrizo 7e models produced between Nov 10, 2015 and Nov 17, 2016, said a statement on the website of the State Administration for Market Regulation.

Defective control software of the affected vehicles may lead to charger damages and even engine failure in extreme cases, posing safety risks.

The automaker promised to update electronic control system and on-board charger data, and replace trickle-charging fuse of the affected vehicles free of charge, according to the statement.
