The number of motor vehicles hits 360m in China

The number of motor vehicles in China reached 360 million by June, among which 270 million are automobiles, Xinhua News Agency reported on Tuesday.

About 14.14 million motor vehicles were newly registered in the first half of this year, 980,000 fewer than the same period last year, according to the Ministry of Public Security's Traffic Management Bureau.

A total of 10.42 million automobiles were newly registered in H1 of this year, a decrease of 2 million compared with the same period last year.

In the same period, about 3.33 million motorcycles were newly registered, an increase of 885,000 compared with the same period last year.

Among other motor vehicles, including trailers, 395,000 new vehicles were registered, an increase of 135,000 compared with the same period last year.

The number of cargo trucks reached 29.44 million, accounting for 10.9 percent of the total number of vehicles. In the first half of 2020, about 1.88 million new cargo trucks were registered, an increase of 130,000 over the same period last year.

Statistics indicate that 69 Chinese cities have more than 1 million vehicles and about 12 cities, including Beijing, Chengdu in Southwest China's Sichuan province and Chongqing in Southwest China, have over 3 million vehicles.
