GWM's sales up 56.5% in first half

China's largest pickup and SUV maker Great Wall Motors sold 100,664 vehicles in June, up 22.7 percent from the same month last year, according to statistics the company released on Thursday.

Its sales in the first half of the year totaled 618,211 units, surging 56.5 percent year-on-year, said the carmaker headquartered in Baoding, Hebei province.

Great Wall Motors have five brands, including Haval, Ora, Wey as well as Tank. Haval vehicle sales in June reached 59,946 units, accounting for nearly 60 percent of the carmaker's total sales in the month.

The H6 SUV was the best-seller, with 29,664 units sold in May, up 27.5 percent from the same month last year. The model was China's most popular SUV model for 97 months in a row.

Great Wall Motors' pickup deliveries in June stood at 18,060 units, bringing the total in the first half of this year to 118,066, which accounted for around half of total pickup sales in the country.

Great Wall Motors' electric car brand Ora saw its sales in June to reach 10,791 units, bringing total sales in the first half to 52,547units, up 459.6 percent year-on-year.

The carmaker continued its overseas expansion as well. Last month, its sales in international markets hit 13,702 units, up 281.5percent year-on-year. Its overseas sales in the first half totaled 61,672, rising over 200 percent from the same period last year.
